Risks of Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is one of the safest and most commonly performed operations in medicine. The vast majority of patients have an uncomplicated procedure with a meaningful improvement in vision.

Like any surgical procedure, there are risks. These are discussed with you personally during your pre-operative consultation, so that you can make an informed decision with a clear understanding of both the expected benefits and the uncommon but real possibility of a complication.

After Surgery — What to Watch For

Most recoveries are straightforward. However, if something doesn't feel right in the days or weeks after surgery — particularly increasing pain, worsening redness, or a noticeable drop in vision — contact the rooms promptly. Early assessment is always the right response.

When to Call

If you experience increasing pain, worsening redness, or reduced vision after cataract surgery — call (02) 8544 0719 immediately. Outside of hours, present to Sydney Eye Hospital Emergency.
